About

I am an Assistant Professor in the School of Climate Change and Sustainability at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru, India. My research focuses on physical oceanography and geophysical fluid dynamics, with an emphasis on understanding the multiscale physical processes that regulate ocean circulation, mixing, and climate variability. I also serve as a Guest Investigator at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), Massachusetts, USA.

My research combines satellite observations, in situ ocean measurements, theoretical analyses, and high-resolution numerical modeling to investigate equatorial wave dynamics, submesoscale ocean dynamics, internal gravity waves in the ocean, and upper-ocean mixing. I am particularly interested in understanding how interactions across scales influence vertical transport, tracer exchange, energy transfer, and regional climate variability in the Indian Ocean.

Prior to joining Azim Premji University, I was a Postdoctoral Investigator at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA, where I worked with Dr. Amala Mahadevan and Dr. J. Thomas Farrar, both Senior Scientists in the Department of Physical Oceanography and faculty members of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) - Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) Joint Program in Oceanography/Applied Ocean Science and Engineering (MIT-WHOI Joint Program). I have also worked as a postdoctoral researcher with Dr. Manikandan Mathur, Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Geophysical Flows Laboratory at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Chennai, India. I received my Ph.D. from the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, under the supervision of Dr. Jai Sukhatme and Dr. Debasis Sengupta.

My long-term research goal is to improve the understanding and prediction of ocean circulation and climate variability by integrating theory, numerical modeling, ocean observations, and emerging data-driven approaches.
